Ridder and Signify combine forces to unlock lighting intelligence to greenhouse growers

Ridder and Signify

Standardization meets innovation with Philips GrowWise smart spectrum and Ridder Hortimax Pro, connected through the Horti Lighting Protocol (HLP)

What if your greenhouse lighting system could think for itself— adjusting spectrum or photon flux in real-time to optimize energy use or accelerate crop growth in a few clicks? Thanks to a powerful new collaboration between Signify, the world leader in lighting, and Ridder, a global innovator in greenhouse automation, this is now a reality.

At GreenTech Amsterdam 2025 Signify introduced the Philips GrowWise smart spectrum.  A new software service designed to support energy savings or boost crop growth by up to 6%. Based on 18 years of research on plant-light interaction and real-time sunlight data, the GrowWise smart spectrum enables growers to strategically replace less efficient light spectra with more energy-effective ones, bringing plant-centric intelligence into the core of lighting operations.

But smart lighting doesn’t work in isolation. It needs seamless integration across hardware, software, and strategy. That’s why, for this launch, we have connected with Ridder Hortimax Pro, the most advanced greenhouse automation system on the market. Signify’s lighting is now fully integrated following the Horti Lighting Protocol (HLP), an industry standard for connecting lighting solutions with control systems. This collaboration delivers a true plug-and-play solution for growers looking to elevate performance while reducing complexity.

“By combining Ridder’s powerful greenhouse automation with Signify’s lighting intelligence, we’re offering growers not just tools, but ‘Connected control’” said Sander Baraké, Product Director at Ridder.
“Standardization using the Horti Lighting Protocol (HLP) proves that innovation doesn’t have to mean isolation. It means collaboration.”

“The GrowWise smart spectrum is designed to work smarter, not just harder,” added Udo van Slooten, sales leader Philips horticulture LED solutionsat Signify.
“When paired with Ridder Hortimax Pro, growers gain not only visibility, but dynamic control over how lighting serves their crops and energy goals.”

Three Key Components to unlock Lighting Intelligence:

  • Multi-channel controllable LED lamp
  • Smart algorithms through the Philips GrowWise control system
  • A powerful control platform – Ridder Hortimax Pro

Together, this ecosystem empowers growers to:

  • Automate lighting based on crop needs and external conditions
  • Optimize energy usage and sustainability metrics like energy efficiency
  • Gain actionable insights from an intuitive dashboard
  • Integrate innovations within a future-proof, scalable solution
